Will What You Want

When I first met Dona Cady, she was at a booth in the lower cafe in the Lowell city building giving information about fellowships and study abroad. While I was extremely excited about the idea of travel, I wasn't sure if it was a possibility for me.

I am a single parent of two small children. As you can imagine, my responsibilites are great. I am different from my peers because before taking any action I must first consider the reprocussions not only for me but for two other lives additionally.

That night I went home and discussed with my friend the information I had received. He asked me if nothing held me back which I would choose. Immediately I replied “I want to go to China.” He said “let’s make it happen.”

At once I was exhilarated and terrified. So many questions... How will this work? Will I be safe? How will my children handle two weeks apart from their mother? Is China really the place I want to go? How will this change me? Do I even have a chance of being selected?

I had to try, if only to see how the process would work.

This site was created to convey the story of my China experience.
